To bring forward a new and comprehensive pedestrianisation and resurfacing scheme, including paving, seating, lighting and controlled car parking. The aspiration was to increase activity and enhance the identity of Micklegate.

Micklegate Bar remains the most prominent of York’s four medieval gateways and the entrance to the city for anyone arriving from the south. Our propsals were developed to generate a new urban culture.

The proposals prioritise pedestrian and cycle use which generates a new vernacular, predicated on transforming the area and ensuring the quality of the commercial businesses located on Micklegate remains high.
