Team: Neil Brown, Stephen Clewes

  • To bring forward a new and comprehensive pedestrianisation and resurfacing scheme, including paving, seating, lighting and controlled car parking. The aspiration was to increase activity and enhance the identity of Micklegate.

  • Micklegate Bar remains the most prominent of York’s four medieval gateways and the entrance to the city for anyone arriving from the south. Our propsals were developed to generate a new urban culture.

  • The proposals prioritise pedestrian and cycle use which generates a new vernacular, predicated on transforming the area and ensuring the quality of the commercial businesses located on Micklegate remains high.
